FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER TWO RUSSIAN PLASTIC SURGEONS JOINED THE AMERCICAN SOCIETY OF AESTHETIC PLASTIC SURGERY (ASAPS)
January 27 2008It happened at the end of April 2007 during the aesthetic surgery congress held in New-York to mark the 40th anniversary of ASAPS. Not every surgeon can easily become an active member of ASAPS: an applicant needs to be recommended by other active members of ASAPS. The Society is known to have strict requirements both to its members' qualifications and their professional ethics. The process of decision-making regarding admittance of new members may take a very long time. The applicant should provide extensive data on surgical procedures performed for the last three years and detailed report of every surgical procedure performed during the last year. Moreover, a surgeon's practice marketing and promotion methods and ethics are thorougly examined and all advertising materials including web site are closely inspected. Sergey Nudelman and Nikolay Golubkov, plastic surgeons from Ekaterinburg, Russia, were admitted to ASAPS membership based on highest recommendations of the leading American plastic surgeons. The idea of introducing the Russian surgeons to the American Society belonged to one of the pioneers of American plastic surgery, the ASAPS life-member, Professor Thomas M. Biggs. The letter of sponsorship by other active member of ASAPS, Professor Timothy J. Marten contained the highest appreciation and positive comments about his Russian colleague, Sergey Nudelman: "... I trust and admire him greatly and he is the kind of physician I would wish to care for a family member or me. He is also the type of person I would feel fortunate to have as a partner or associate."
